From what I've seen in games, they're all spot on. Certainly in competitive player vs player scenarios. Even I've been getting sexist comments solely because I play with a female avatar. On the other hand I've also gotten free stuff. 0_o Gamers are weird lol.

I dunno how common the harassment outside of the game is (like stalking/inappropriate messages/etc) but it does sound like something certain types of gamers would do.

All I can say is, the girls in my guild in GW2 are mostly very good players and treated as any other player. They also all play muscled male characters xD.
