(The Guardian) Biden supports changing filibuster rules to codify Roe
Biden said he would support changing the Senate filibuster rules to codify abortion rights nationally.

“We have to codify Roe v Wade in the law and the wya to do that is to make sure Congress votes to do that. And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, ... we should require an exception to the filibuster for this action,” he said.

The filibuster requires 60 votes to advance most legislation in the evenly-divided Senate. All 50 Democrats and two Republicans say they would support, in theory, legislation codifying abortion, which leaves them 8 votes short of the 60-vote threshold. However, Democrats lack the necessary 50 votes to eliminate or change the filibuster rules.

Under pressure from pro-choice advocates for not doing enough, Biden said he would meet with a group of governors on Friday to discuss abortion rights. He told reporters he would announce long-promised actions by the federal government to protect abortion access at the event.

Given his evolution on abortion, Biden is asked if he is the party’s best messenger on the issue.

He let out a chuckle: “Yeah, I am.”

“I’m the president of the United States of America. That makes me the best messenger,” he said. “I’m the only president they got. And I feel extremely strongly that I’m going to everything in my power which I legally can do in terms of executive orders as well as push the Congress and the public.

The bottom line here is, if you care, if the polling data is correct, and you think this decision by the court was an outrage or a significant mistake: VOTE. Show up and vote. Vote in the off-year and vote vote vote. That’s how we’ll change it.”

They had decades to do it but wait until now.... why? He's just saying that to get votes and campaign dollars because what he does best which is say anything to get ahead politically even if it means saying something different later that conflicts with what was said back then. Unfortunately for him, we have the internet and recording devices now where everything can be recorded to be dug up later if need be to show hypocrisy or to call out lies when they get told. If they fix a problem then they can no longer use said problem to fundraise which is why they never did it after all these years because there was too much money to be made from it and they just assumed the supreme court would never overturn it well until they did.

You think he'll run for re-election?
Honestly I don't think he will. He will step aside and use his low poll numbers and nonviable candidacy(this assertion will be made to him by his advisers in private) as a reason to step aside for the good of the party as a way to duck out of admitting he has dementia and is really stepping aside because he simply can't do the job anymore. The fact the mainstream media has been pushing the question in interviews of whether he will run or not in 2024 is rather telling seeing as they never asked any other president in recent times this question. This wouldn't be the first time a sitting president willingly chose not to run again when they could do so as LBJ did this back in 1968 as he knew he couldn't win so he tried stepping aside to let someone else try to retain the presidency for the Democrats which ultimately failed as this is how we got Nixon as president.

I might be wrong though but if this did happen then I wouldn't be surprised by it.

I agree, I highly doubt he'll have a second term.
