WASHINGTON (AP) -- Biofuels made from the leftovers of harvested corn plants are worse than gasoline for global warming in the short term, a study shows, challenging the Obama administration's conclusions that they are a much cleaner oil alternative and will help combat climate change.

A $500,000 study paid for by the federal government and released Sunday in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Climate Change concludes that biofuels made with corn residue release 7 percent more greenhouse gases in the early years compared with conventional gasoline.

While biofuels are better in the long run, the study says they won't meet a standard set in a 2007 energy law to qualify as renewable fuel.

The conclusions deal a blow to what are known as cellulosic biofuels, which have received more than a billion dollars in federal support but have struggled to meet volume targets mandated by law. About half of the initial market in cellulosics is expected to be derived from corn residue.

More like just worse on my fuel mileage
But that doesn't necessarily matter. Consider this:
The Ford Model T had roughly the same fuel economy as a Hummer H3. Yet you constantly hear people complaining about the horrible mileage of hummers (which is roughly four times heavier than a Model T and is therefore clearly superior) whereas the Model T was a smash hit.

It's all about gas prices! Don't tell me you wouldn't be happy to drive an equivalent car that runs on cheaper fuel than the stuff you need now.
Now before you complain about biofuel being more expensive... Corn isn't a finite resource meaning any demand could theoretically be met. Oil is a finite resource, it'll run out sooner or later (ok, later) and since basic economic theory tells us scarcity increases a product's price... Petrol can hardly help but become more expensive than biofuels in the long run.

So, in conclusion, don't use biofuel till they've worked out all the kinks and it's actually cheaper, but don't complain about "Liberals pushing their agenda". They probably won't get the presidency next term so there's a limit to what they can force on you, while the research is still useful long term.

There is a flaw to your political logic.

You are assuming that there is a significant difference to the policies enacted by a "liberal" as versus a self proclaimed "conservative" when, in truth, both are flaming assholes.

I mean.

.... when, in truth, both are flaming POLITICIANS.
