I don't like them either and had a hard time with them before, but I forced myself to watch what they were doing so that I could see it's nothing to be afraid of. I still get a little nervous, but these people are professionals and should know what they are doing. Good luck to you.
I have to take blood samples all the time. I just keep talking while I'm doing it and have actually had people ask me when I was going to start. I was already finished.
If allowed, play some music using your earphones. That's a great way to distract yourself from what's going on.
If you're prone to getting dizzy, let the tech know ahead of time. This way they can be prepared if you should faint. Also, they might have a reclining chair (we do) for people who get dizzy when getting blood tests. The recliner stops the dizzy feeling from happening.
This reminds me of the pre-2009 era. Especially 2007. But the whole thing evolved for me though: Dizzy -> Neutral (2009-2012) -> Excited (2012-present).

Why? I'm the only one who DOES love having one. As far as I know. Nobody in my family has overcome those.
I used to hate having blood work done, but given that I take lithium for depression, I have to have them done on a regular basis; trust me when I say that lithium is one drug you definitely do not to screw around with.
