(Aug. 26) -- A 4-year-old boy was being tested for sexually transmitted diseases after he found a used condom in an Atlanta hotel room and tried to blow it up, thinking it was a balloon, his family said.

The boy found the condom in the sheets of a bed in the hotel where his family was staying, according to his grandmother Carmen Jones.

He had his tongue in it, Jones said in a statement released by her lawyers. I immediately took it out of his mouth.

The boy sickened and developed sores on his tongue not long after, Jones said. She took him to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta to have him tested for sexually transmitted diseases, including herpes and HIV, a local CBS affiliate reported.

He had little white blisters all on the top of his mouth, on his tongue, inside the mouth, inside the lip, the bottom lip. It was all over, Jones told the CBS affiliate.

Several members of the Jones family who live in Alpharetta, Ga., were staying at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in downtown Atlanta after a visit to Six Flags Over Georgia on July 31.

Jones said she was exhausted when she checked in but the next morning she noticed that the room had not been cleaned after the previous occupants left. She put a call into reception to complain. Then, when she was in the bathroom, she heard a scream, according to the statement from her lawyers.

When she came out, she says she saw her grandson with the condom in his mouth. She took it from him and was horrified to see it contained semen.

According to the statement, she then called hotel management and asked for alcohol and mouthwash for her grandson. The hotel manager came to the room, put on latex gloves and took the condom from her, citing company policy.

The family is awaiting the results of blood tests. Jones and the boy's father fear the youngster will suffer serious health problems from this incident, according to the statement.

Jones has since filed a report with the Atlanta Police Department and the family engaged lawyers to negotiate a settlement with the hotel. If no settlement is reached, the lawyer plans to file suit.

Wyndham Hotels said it was disturbed to learn of the allegations, but that the hotel in question was individually owned and operated. It has been sold since the incident occurred, the hotel chain said.

We would regret any such incident that may have occurred at any of our hotel locations, Evy Apostolatos, a spokeswoman for Wyndham Hotel Group, said in an e-mail to AOL News. Because the incident is currently under investigation by authorities, we can offer no comment on this matter at this time.

AOL News was unable to find contact information for the previous franchise owner.

I would be horrified as well... Extremely.

This story makes me sick

The hotel staff should clean the rooms thoroughly in between rentals. I'd say the cleaning staff needs to be fired & replaced and the hotel itself sued.

if the child got 'blisters' so soon after doing it it is not likely due to any std present...........more likely a reaction to any lube/spermicide on the condom.............but far more likely been exaggerated so they can sue the hotel

This is the biggest bull crap story I have ever read. When I check into a hotel room I make sure it's been cleaned. She didn't notice until the next morning the room hadn't been cleaned? Who was screaming? Maybe grandma was screaming because she had sex and hid the condom herself.

Sounds to me like this kid has a case of tonsillitis or had an allergic reaction to latex. No way in hell STD symptoms would manifest this quickly.

Urgh! This reminds me of a few months ago when I was staying alone in a motel.

I look under the bed, I kid you not - PREGNANCY TEST had been kicked under it... :/

That is plain gross. Did you not check the room before staying there?

I hate how easy it is to sue in the United States. Its stupid.

Anyway, I don't see why they don't sue the guy who left the condom in the room... shouldn't they be able to look that up?

I had stayed there before and they'd always been quite good.

i booked over the phone, and HAD to find somewhere.

So, no position to do so.

I did, however, of course, complain.

There's always time to check if a room is clean or not, as soon as you open the room door, you look... It's not that hard to look and see if the room is clean or not...

Yes. Cos they just give you the keys to go in with no agreement or check-in...It TOTALLY works like that.

Maybe where you live... :/

Whether the room is clean or not is visible on first glance. But honestly who checks under the bed first thing? That was the ONLY flaw with the room, and there was a complaint made and action taken.

Don't you worry. I know how to handle myself in the real world.

I'll own up... I got lonely so decided to jack off into it. Yep, sue me, I'm sorry.

In all seriousness, that's kinda disgusting.

1st thing I do when I rent a hotel room is walk in the door and immediately search the place with a fine tooth comb?

No probably not. Ive never seen anyone do that. I guess people assume that it will be clean.

The incident is not the customer's fault, its the hotels fault.

Couldn't have said it better.
