Question for the resident Brits. What do you think of the Royal Family?

I've noticed on the Internet that some people seem to almost have a fetish for them, and react aggressively toward those who speak against them, or say they don't care about them. I don't understand. Why? What's so special about them?

I remember an episode of Mr. Bean where he accidentally knocked out the Queen. Did anyone gave Rowan Atkinson a hard time over it? I don't think so.

So, can anyone shed some light on the matter?

The Royal Family are just parasites. Privilege by birthright is wrong. I live in Britain and have dual nationality but I was born in Ireland and any national loyalty I have is to Ireland. I have some respect for Princess Anne and don't mind Prince William as we support the same team so he's okay by me but everyone else is out of touch with reality.

I'm not bothered by them, at all

this year was the queen's jubilee- 70 years on the throne. okay, I get it. longest serving monark, but what do you want, a medal?

do we really need to have a whole weekend to celebrate a woman being on a throne

and it's the same when the royal family have a baby. everything stops and people are in awww

they are just regular people who had a regular baby. all the attention isn't needed

do you know: it's actually a law in thailand that if you speak badly about the royal family (their own or anyone else's), you can go to jail

so least we're not thai..

The 70th birthday of my avatar is more important to me. At least if you don't like him you don't have to finance him by buying his records, concert tickets or merchandise bearing his likeness but you have to finance the Royals whatever your opinion of them through taxes. And at least Tomas has earned his wealth.

His father was born the day after the Queen and has led a more useful life. As a teacher, he educated hundreds, maybe thousands of children and became a Headmaster/Principal in 1962 when Tomas was 10. Mr Ledin Senior is still alive at 96.

I am not from the UK but we hear about them a lot over here on this side of the pond. I like that such an old world tradition is still alive today but it does seem kind of pointless at the same time. Do they even run anything or are they just figure heads?

They are just figureheads, Nebulous. The days when the monarch had absolute power are long gone.

I personally strongly dislike the Royal family.

Lady Dianna - This one speaks for itself.
Prince Andrew and how they’re desperately trying to brush this under the carpet.

We have no use for a monarchy, sure it brings money in but it just all goes to London anyways, we don’t see any funding up north.

Way over privileged and don’t do anything.

I do understand the fact that those from other countries love them but it’s only because they don’t know about the corruption that’s been going on for years.

Actually, can you elaborate a little? From what I understand, people actually respected her.
Yes the people did, everyone loved her. She was then killed, people believe the royal family are behind the killing.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist at all, but that’s one theory I believe 100%

I recall stories about her being a misfit in the Royal family, an outsider they never accepted as one of their own. Do you know more about this?

I do, I’ve done a lot of research… I mean a LOT.

She was far too “for the people” for the royal family and she related with the “common” people and she was hated for it by the royal family and then she died.

Well that’s the short of it, but honestly I’d definitely suggestion researching the topic it’s very interesting.

When did they have absolute power?

How so?
