A soldier from 1st Battalion The Rifles has been killed by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan.
It happened yesterday in the Haji Kareen area of the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said.
The soldier's family has been informed.
Lieutenant Colonel Tim Purbrick, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said the soldier had been on a foot patrol, supporting the Afghan National Security Forces when they were attacked.
He said the soldier was helping to clear one of the last remaining insurgent safe havens in Central Helmand, when he was fatally wounded by an improvised explosive device.
