I am currently using an older version of IE and my operating system is Windows XP. I am also using a dial up connection. I want to download a faster browser but not sure which one is better. I was looking at Google Chrome, FireFox and Opera. Since I'm computer ignorant, can someone please help me decide which browser is better?

Thank you very much for your time!

I've only used Chrome or Firefox, out of the two Chrome's the easiest to use and the fastest I've found. Also, Chrome doesn't seem to freeze as much as the new version of Firefox. Though with Firefox, you can get add-ons which can block adds and stuff. Never used Opera.

Out of the three I say Chrome will be your best option

Thank you for your reply Dragon! Will wait and see if I get any other responses.

I myself use Firefox. I haven't used any other browsers apart from IE and FF. I never got on with IE, since I changed to FF, I've never looked back.

I've actually tried all three... still have them installed too

I don't like Opera too much, but it works.

Personally, I use Firefox, the adons play a major part in that (Chrome has them too though), but it's mostly the UI. Chrome tucks everything away which, while giving you more window space, makes it take longer to reach things.

I'd suggest just giving them all a go, see which one you like best.

Thank you EE as that was one of my questions but you've answered it. I didn't know if I installed a new browser if I had to get rid of the old one. Now I know that I don't have to do that. Not sure about available space on my hard drive so I might just try Google Chrome first and go from there.

You certainly don't have to deinstall a browser to get a new one (I have 5

), there're all separate programs. As for disk space

These are the sized of their respective Program Files folders. (Not the best indicator because they keep stuff in other locations as well, but it shows they aren't that big.)

Internet Explorer: 3MB

Opera: 19MB

Firefox: 34MB

Safari: 40MB

Chrome: 300MB

On a side note: Deinstalling IE is next to impossible because it's more or less integrated

Thank you very much for this information! I'm going to do a disk cleanup and run a disk defrag. before I install the new browser. I'm sure there's a lot of unnecessary crap that I can clean out to free up space.

Go for Chrome or Opera, FireFox (my browser of choice) can be a resource hog so for slower PCs it won't be very good. Chrome & Opera are lightweight.

Just test them all and see which you like best.
