Bud Light has been forced to remove a slogan that some said encouraged rape culture.

The brand ran with a strap-line that described its drink as ‘the perfect beer for removing “no” from your vocabulary for the night’.

It also came with the hashtag #upforwhatever.

But that didn’t go down with many people and, naturally, Twitter exploded with outrage.

Eventually the company realized the error of its ways and withdrew the label.

Alexander Lambrecht, vice president for Bud Light said: ‘It’s clear that this particular message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior. As a result, we have immediately ceased production of this message on all bottles.’

Did Bud Light’s new label encourage rape culture? Why/Why not?

I don't believe it was necessarily encouraging a rape culture, but it definitely was attempting to cash-in on the rape culture...which, really, is at least just as bad.

I'm surprised the rich, well-educated, old white-haired men at the helm couldn't figure this out for themselves before printing up the labels and needed public outcry and backlash to *figure it out*.

Oh. Look at that. They got us talking about their product. Personally, I've never discussed Bud Light on an online discussion board, before. *Odd* how that works.

Here's the full statement from the Anheuser-Busch Newsroom

“The Bud Light Up for Whatever campaign, now in its second year, has inspired millions of consumers to engage with our brand in a positive and light-hearted way. In this spirit, we created more than 140 different scroll messages intended to encourage brand engagement. It’s clear that this particular message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior. As a result, we have immediately ceased production of this message on all bottles.”

Would love to be able to ask Alexander Lambrecht just what mark he was going for. This particular message was not positive or light-hearted.

Somebody should introduce Mr. Lambrecht to the concept that gagging him with a ballcock would remove his ability to "say 'no' for a night", too...

...and see how "light-hearted" and "positive" that "brand-engagement" would be. Jus' sayin'. :halo2:

Again...that a roomful of grown men had no inkling that this might not be a good idea and/or that not a single one of 'em had the balls to say something against it is completely unfathomable to me. Scares the shit of me, actually.

 What an interesting message to send. Dumb asses.

Removing the "no" from "should I buy more", no doubt.

I think the slogan simply encourages irresponsible behavior and beer companies should be promoting safe, responsible drinking.
