In Cape Town, the president announced a $7 billion U.S. initiative to double access to electric power on a continent where only one in three people have electricity.

"More and more African economies are poised to take off and increased trade and investment from the United States has the potential to accelerate these trends, creating new jobs and opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic," Obama said.

Mr. Obama is promising to help build electric generators in Africa, and they will not be solar or wind powered.

But in the US, his administration is blocking the same thing.

"What's'up'wit'dat?"

not building solar power plants in Africa only goes to prove how corporations are running things and not governments. It is just stupid.

Like I said.

It will NOT be solar:

24 June 2013
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — Two American firms have joined forces to develop the much awaited 400MW gas-fired power plant in Mtwara, the south of Tanzania. However mention was made of the financial details last week.

General Electric International (GE) and Symbion Power (Tanzania) signed a cooperative deal to work on the power plant which on completion will relieve some pressure on Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) as demand continues to soar.

Halliburton says hi.

Under President Bush and Vice President Cheney, fracking was exempted from significant EPA regulation

Hydraulic fracturing, an increasingly common aspect of the oil and gas production process, is not subject to the same standards as other industries when it comes to protecting underground sources of drinking water

Hydraulic fracturing involves the injection of fluids including toxic chemicals into oil or gas wells at very high pressure

Other forms of underground injection are regulated to protect drinking water, but in 2005 Congress created exemptions for hydraulic fracturing to benefit Halliburton and other oil and gas companies. http://www.independentwatertesting.com/education-center/148-what-is-the-halliburton-loophole.html

News on the Electrification of Africa:

July 9 2013

The delay in completion of the Medupi power station – which will place even more strain on the already overloaded grid – is a result of sabotage.

This was according to the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), who claimed that the project was being purposely delayed by contractors who were profiting from the delay.

Numsa’s general secretary, Irvin Jim, called for a probe of possible collusion between the contractors and sub-contractors.
