Even with gaming I do see pshycial copies dying, Everything can be done digitally now.Yeah, pretty much all my games are brought through Steam these days.
It'd be impossible to list all of my Steam games - but the one I have the most hours on is Civilization V (2.532.4 hours).
It also isn't helped by the way they are now oversaturated with trash games. It used to be way easier to browse through their specials and game catalogues. But now I barely even bother. Nowadays I might briefly look at their home pages of their store and sales but that is about it. I think most of their games I get are now through Humble Bundle either as part of bundles or through their sales.Steam used to have the most amazing sales, a great time to absolutely load up on games. Now their sales a bit lackluster, but they're still worth checking on. Steam as a whole is a good platform for buying games for PC, the best available at the moment.
Oh absolutely agreed! When they curated their library properly it was amazing, great game after great game, but not anymore. Now they've got everything from junk titles to porn titles, it's a little sad!It also isn't helped by the way they are now oversaturated with trash games. Yes! I think the only problem they had in their initial days was the difficulty of good indie games getting onto their service. But I am pretty sure this was an industry wide shortcoming. It definitely is a little sad. Although if you know what you are wanting you can avoid all of the junk. It does mean that there is a lot less of me discovering titles on Steam that I might not have otherwise tried.Oh absolutely agreed! yeah, if they'd do a sort of highlight category, or a curated list of hidden gems every now and then, that would be amazing! As it is, though, anyone that makes any kind of game can just plop it on there, sight unseen almost. I keep a list of games and add them to my wishlist so I can track them that way, otherwise I do more or less the same thing as everyone else, check the homepage, wait for sales and hope...it's a little disheartening considering where Steam was before, but I understand the tactic, try and generate more money selling everything.Yes! They actually had good titles on their platform because there was next to no competition, now everyone's got a streaming app and what used to cost $10/month for a great library of titles is costing over $100 if you spread between the apps. It's insane! That's why I just go the old school route of buying DVDs and Blu Rays, then I can add them to my Plex server and never have to worry about content vanishing or transferring to a different platform.I wonder if this is an inevitable problem with platforms that get really big. Like Netflix - They're in deep shit rn, but say a few years back, they basically had way too much of an abundance of titles and you'd have to scrounge through to find something you enjoyed.
Oh you're a mod now? I have to be controlled and can't annoy you as much anymore. As far as it being inevitable with larger platforms, I think it is. They get popular, people want to get their titles on that service, so they have to either continue to meticulously curate or just let on whatever they want to let on. Netflix went the original content route, and some of that works for them, which is good, but a lot of it...yikes.
No need to hold back around me, heard everything you can imagine and then some.Oh you're a mod now? I have to be controlled and can't annoy you as much anymore. T-T
Yeah, in that case Plex wouldn't be a good fit, but for people like me who likes to go back and watch or share my library with my friends, it's handy! And yeah I saw you talking about the Plex server in your ask thread. I guess that's more useful for retaining stuff or preserving it to always tune back later. But I never, ever go back to watch something again, no matter how much I liked it ahah. So Plex won't be as viable for me.
I'd like to try HBO Max, but I'm trimming down on streaming services, got to save my pennies!Speaking of this, I think HBO Max is much better at curating than Netflix and also a very preferred platform rn. Though they've been removing originals lately. Have you tried/thought of trying it?
Oh what are you saving for exactly? I can introduce you to gambling~I'd like to try HBO Max, but I'm trimming down on streaming services, got to save my pennies!
Well, there's a certain medical operation...but more importantly I'm a full time caregiver to my mother, I don't get paid much of a wage anymore, so I just have to be careful.Oh what are you saving for exactly? I can introduce you to gambling~
I see. I hope it goes alright.Well, there's a certain medical operation...but more importantly I'm a full time caregiver to my mother, I don't get paid much of a wage anymore, so I just have to be careful.
Fingers crossed!I see. I hope it goes alright.
I think it is different problems that the two are facing. Although when it comes to Steam I do think it is made a lot more difficult by the size of the library. This could have been mitigated if they hadn't just given up on curation. It is most likely a case of not being able to put the genie back in the bottle now though.I wonder if this is an inevitable problem with platforms that get really big. Yeah, I do the same thing with my wishlist too, I try to put all the games on there that I am wanting to track for when they have decent specials. Every now and then I will use their discovery feature to see if I can find something new I might be interested in. But my gaming interests are too widespread so it seems to be misses more often than hits with that. I mean I am going through it right now and it just advised a train sim becauseyeah, if they'd do a sort of highlight category, or a curated list of hidden gems every now and then, that would be amazing! Yeah, agreed. With the rise of competition for streaming we are increasingly seeing the services carving out their own little fiefdoms. Which is annoying. So I just stick with Crunchyroll and Netflix for streaming. They actually had good titles on their platform because there was next to no competition, now everyone's got a streaming app and what used to cost $10/month for a great library of titles is costing over $100 if you spread between the apps.
