Buying through Steam

I think it is different problems that the two are facing. Although when it comes to Steam I do think it is made a lot more difficult by the size of the library. This could have been mitigated if they hadn't just given up on curation. It is most likely a case of not being able to put the genie back in the bottle now though.

Yup! Though I found putting the excluded tags on Indie, Platformer (mostly Indie) literally solves a lot of this issue. I also only enjoy AAA games, so it's much easier for me to curate anyway. Wbu, do you like to look for a lot of Indie/small games or?

Oh absolutely! If they'd kept moderating, kept curating and not just let it all slide things would not be as bad as they are, but they let it all go and now it's absolutely a case of not being able to undo the mistake.
Yeah, I do the same thing with my wishlist too, I try to put all the games on there that I am wanting to track for when they have decent specials. Every now and then I will use their discovery feature to see if I can find something new I might be interested in. But my gaming interests are too widespread so it seems to be misses more often than hits with that. I mean I am going through it right now and it just advised a train sim because
lol, I've tried that, too. It's a good concept, but it's poorly executed.
Hahahaha no. Admitedly part of my dilemma is also from how I own multiple platforms and there are much more games being released across them all. Which I actually think is a really good situation to be in. The fewer exclusives the better.
I totally agree with you there, exclusives were fine 20 years ago, but times have moved on...everyone games on everything, so let it release on every platform!
Yeah, agreed. With the rise of competition for streaming we are increasingly seeing the services carving out their own little fiefdoms. Which is annoying. So I just stick with Crunchyroll and Netflix for streaming.
Totally understandable, I'm cutting right down on streaming services because it's just ridiculous now. Worse than cable. Oh, you want to watch this? Well we've dropped that, it's only on Service X now...nah, just stick with one or two and be done with it.

I don't really make much use of their tag system as when I have tried searching the store by tag it didn't really provide me with what I was looking for at all. For the same reason I wouldn't use the tag exclusion option, as I have no doubt it would exclude games which I don't associate with the tags. I don't actively look for Indie/small games. However there are some which I have really loved. Of my 20 most played games on Steam 5 are Indie titles and none are in the top ten. This could be more based on them tending to be smaller titles though. The more I think about it, that was probably a terrible metric to go off and doesn't reveal anything. But I do think I lean more towards AAA titles but there are definitely Indie games which I love as well. I also think I spend more time gaming on consoles than on PC. Although since moving house that trend seems to have reversed.

Yeah, I remember when I first came across the feature I was so excited about it and used to spend ages going through lists. Now most of the time I don't even remember it exists. Often when it does mention games I am interested in I already know about them and often own them on console so am not really wanting to buy them again.

Especially with how the gaps between platform hardware is becoming much smaller today than it used to be. I say that, but some ports have been zero effort comical messes.

Absolutely, it's a muddle of various games, and rarely accurate. It does the same to me, recommending games I have on my wishlist or games I know about, and definitely games I own elsewhere. Not useful, mostly.

Oh absolutely there are plenty of terrible ports out there!!

I mean they aren't wrong when they recommend those games I guess hahaha. Just unfortunate that wanted them on a different platform. Also the totally left field random games that I have absolutely no interest in at all.

Yes! It isn't even always about the platform differences either. As I get there will be complications with the platforms not all being as powerful as each other. As much as I love my Switch it isn't exactly a powerhouse of a system. I think more of the terrible porting does come down to effort though. Publishers seeing it as a quick way to access more markets and putting in what isn't even the bare minimum.

True, not wrong, just absolutely not helpful lol.

Oh so true! I love the Switch, but some of the bigger ports that have come along...wow! Also those cash grab remakes and remasters that are always terribly done! They're just ludicrous! The Bioshock remasters, especially on Switch...could've cried! They were poor! I love the Bioshock games, but that remaster collection should not have been released.

Yeah, I have had to be careful when it comes to buying games ported to the Switch. Some of them I have heard are terrible. But in saying that, I think it was on the PS3 that I had to learn this the hard way. As Skyrim became unplayable once my save file had gotten too big. It was very sad as I didn't feel I was done with the game yet but it was done with me apparently. That is disappointing to hear about the Bioshock collection. I shockingly still haven't played them but it seems like that should have been quite an achievable port. I don't really help the remake and remaster tradition as I buy them a lot too. I own three versions of Final Fantasy 4 alone. 😅😬

Oh I'm an absolute hypocrite there, I buy a lot of ports and remasters, too. I never learn :D. That's awful that Skyrim did that, you'd think they would have thought that through!! You should absolutely play the Bioshock games if you get a chance, they're spectacular! I think the PC versions are good!

It was more a limitation of the PS3 hardware that they didn't effectively manage to overcome. I do own it on other platforms though. Haha I am worse with Skyrim even as I own 4 versions. Oh my life. At least one of them is the PSVR one so it is different enough of an experience. Also own it on PS5 and PC. Bioshock is definitely on my to play list. I think it is one I am waiting till I have more time to devote to playing through all three in a relatively short period of time. Which will probably be the case next year when I am no longer studying part time.

Totally understandable, though, Skyrim is a great game :D. I own it on 360, PS3 and Xbox One lol, so I totally understand!

Definitely the smart move! They're amazing games on their own, but as a series (especially with all of the DLC added in) is just absolutely incredible! I'm a little bias, though, I've been a fan of Ken Levine since the System Shock games :D

Yeah, I put most hours into it on PS3 and I put a few into the PSVR version. Have it installed on PS5 but playing Morrowind at the moment. It will be nice to go back to Skyrim afterwards though and not have to deal with attacks failing all the time at the start of the game.

Yeah, it definitely seems that way. System Shock is another series I still need to play hahaha. I even have them installed on Steam and everything.

I have most hours on the 360 version, but admittedly I've yet to "finish" Skyrim, lol. I get distracted by other games and keep meaning to go back and then it takes me months, years, etc. :D

Oh absolutely! SHODAN is one of the greatest video game villains of all time, she was my number one for years! :D

Yeah I am still playing all my games through Steam.

Though my Epic Games Catelog is filling out nicely with all the free weekly games ive been collecting the last year and a half or so.

I rarely game nowadays with the exception of Pokemon GO, but Steam is my primary go-to when it comes to video games considering I have a fairly nice, fast gaming laptop. I pretty much gave my last console (PS4) to my brother in favor of PC games. Not all are currently installed, but I have 59 games in my Steam library. I have two Call of Duty games on battle.net as well since they're not on Steam.
