I don't think I ever consistently played Call of Duty enough to have a personal favourite especially since people tend to love the older ones more. Black Ops and Black Ops 3 were pretty good for me especially as we used to have a lot of fun messing around in multiplayer.
Any of the original 3. Honestly imo MW onward is kinda lame.. other than WaW.
Haven't played them all, but I still enjoy black ops 2 the most.
MW2 and BO1 are on the same level for me. COD4 was fantastic but MW2 was the absolute golden era of the franchise. Such a fun and addicting game that had me and literally half of my XBL friends-list coming back over and over again. The maps, kill-streaks, weapons... everything.

I've never been a huge CoD fan, but for me Call of Duty 4 pretty much paved the way for the titles that followed..
I never did finish it on Veteran though. I've recently booted up the remaster on my PS4, perhaps I'll go back to it at some point.

The depth of customization in AW hasn't been seen since in a Call of Duty game. You could customize your look right down to your gloves. No two or three players looked the same. Now you get 4 people playing as the Ghost Operator on your team for example and that feels like a step backwards. People also frown upon them now, but the loot crates you could earn in-game also meant there was a certain level of excitement that came with maybe getting a new appearance set piece randomly.
Can you name a few of them that you like? My brother has like all of the COD games.

IMO, both are great games.
Shame that I do not spend enough hours in those games anymore LOL
