A young boy lose control of his rubber ring in a busy public pool.

Thankfully, the lifeguard’s rapid reaction is as quick as lightening – although the other swimmers don’t seem to notice the drowning boy’s flailing arms and attempts to grab attention.

She gives her whistle a blow to ensure people may way and then away she goes on a valiant rescue effort.

Like a total pro, she’s already at the boy’s side supporting his head above the water – and all within around 20 seconds.

It’s only when she’s pulling the swimmer to the safety of the poolside that people in the water begin to notice.

How long did it take you to spot the boy in danger?

I've been a Red Cross certified lifeguard at smaller and less crowded pools.

It is not a job I would recommend to anybody who is easily distracted. You have to constantly sweep the pool and SEE everybody in it and notice, immediately, anything out of the ordinary, and then react to it.

It used to be that if you see something and 'toot' your whistle and they don't look your way, you go in.
