I recently found out a friend of mine had cancer....It was heartbreaking for me to hear and I just can't imagine how he must feel. How would you deal if you found out you had cancer? Or someone you knew? Would you just let the cancer take over or fight? And what if the remedies such as chemotheraphy aren't working? Would you give up or look for something else?

My mum has had breast cancer. I was devastated. All the family backed her all the way, she had a double mastectomy, and has since had reconstruction.

I was the one who drove her around to surgeon appointments and hospital appointments and also all the reconstruction meetings she now goes too. It has been a very tiring 2 years.

My mum is now in her second year of recovery. I takes 5 years and it might come back as a secondary cancer.

All I can say is stand by your friend and live every day like it is your last.

What a depressing topic....

My mother passed away from cancer at age 49. She fought the best she could but it finally won. I will probably get the same cancer when I get older so I need to keep going to the doctor to get checked.

Yea my mum is always on at me to go to the doctors and check but I think well if i'm going to get it i'm going to get it :/

I have nursed several family members through cancer....it's not pretty. Even though it's fatal (in most cases) you don't have to let it 'win'

A dear friend of mine lost her battle with cancer, but she was gracious to the end. Her doctor told her she was going to die and wondered how she could be smiling when he told her that. (he was an ass, in my opinion) She was able to share her faith in God and continued to do so even to the last..... She was definitely an inspiration.

I would be devestated if I ever got cancer.

I know someone who was diagnosed with Leukemia some years ago (we went to the same Primary School). Thankfully that can be cured, and it has, and she's fully recovered.

If I was diagnosed with cancer and told I was going to die, I would try not to let it get me down. I would try and live my life to its fullest in the time I have left, and be thankful for living in the first place. But it is a nasty issue.

If I got cancer, I would just try to live my life to the fullest.

Last year (I think it was September 2008 ), my best friend's little cousin was diagnosed with leukemia. Her little cousin was born on the same day of the same year as my cousin - she was 5. Now she's in remission and she's getting her hair back and I'm so happy.

Last November, my teacher (he was my geometry teacher) was diagnosed with cancer. His daughter's in my class and she would stay in the library during geometry because he was in the hospital and she didn't want to be in there without him. He is still fighting cancer and I'm positive he'll beat it.

Every year, a club I'm in goes and does Relay for Life - it's so sad.

My dad has it,

He had chemotherapy and it died only to return a few years later,

The most important thing is to keep an positive mental attitude otherwise it's easier for it to beat you.
