A shocking video has emerged which appears to show carers taunting and mocking an elderly Alzheimer’s patient in her care home as they call her a ‘witch’.

Freda Jobson’s family hid a secret camera behind a clock at her Kingston upon Hull home and were appalled to see the alleged degrading treatment.

The footage features two carers appearing to mimic the 84-year-old great-grandmother’s groaning as they laugh and swear.

They also ask Freda if she is a witch and whether she has ever practiced black magic.

One woman removes a bandage used to cover a bedsore on her elbow and appears to wrap it around Freda’s head while laughing at her.

Humberside Police, Care Quality Commission and East Riding of Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults are now carrying out a joint investigation.

Freda, who herself spent 30 years as a carer, was lying in bed at Keldgate Manor Residential Home in Beverley when the alleged abuse took place.

Freda’s daughter, Maddy Jobson, 50, said: ‘I am sickened and disgusted. Since I saw the footage I haven’t slept a wink.

‘What if their actions had caused her heart to stop? Would we have just thought mother died peacefully in her sleep? It does not even bear thinking about.

‘There’s a sign on the door of the home that states, “Dignity, Respect and Care”.

‘But where was the dignity, respect and care for my 84-year-old mother?

‘Our family put its trust in those who are supposed to be professional carers. All we wanted was end-of-life dignity and care for my mother.’

Shortly after arriving at the home in 2010, Freda began suffering from bed sores, which are caused by prolonged pressure to the skin.

Nursery worker Maddy had watched a programme about spy cameras used in homes.

‘I wanted to know my mother was being properly looked after. I thought it would put my mind at rest.’

Lynsey Howes, of Hamer’s Solicitors, which is acting on behalf of Keldgate Manor, said: ‘The home is co-operating with external agencies investigating the allegations.’

What would you do if this was your mother?
