Henry Gribbohm says he lost his life savings, $2,600, on a carnival game and all he has to show for it is a stuffed banana with dreadlocks.

“You’re expecting the kids to win a few things, let the kids have a good time,” said Gribbohm. “It just didn’t turn out that way.”

Gribbohm says he attended a Manchester carnival run by New Hampshire-based Fiesta Shows and wanted to win an Xbox Kinect at a game called Tubs of Fun where contestants toss balls into a tub. When he practiced he says it was easy, but something changed when he started playing for the prize and the balls kept popping out.

This story made headlines and it made me wonder if this has ever happened to anyone else?
Do you like carnival games? Do you think they are fixed? Have you ever spent tons of money on a carnival game just to win a prize?

I am too much of a tight wad to blow that kind of money on a carnival game. I'll say something like "I'll try a couple times and move on." If I don't win, oh well. I don't care about their cheap flea market prizes anyway.

I believe they are rigged. They do, however, have to give out a prize every once in awhile. I tried knocking bottles down to win a t-shirt. I hit them damn bottles but only 4 out of 10 went down. I spent a buck and then stopped. Some people get addicted to it just like gambling. That man could have bought the prize he was trying to win much cheaper than wasting his money trying. That's a true loser for you!

Every so often you see a story about an undercover investigation busting one or another game company at a fair or along a boardwalk somewhere.

The operators see the fines and penalties such as the seizure of equipment as the cost of doing business, and move on.

But they are still going, and making money from the gullible.
