Have any of you "Cat People" ever used or tried cat water fountains?
Have you been just thrilled with the results ; or do you consider upkeep & maintenance; ie..regular cleaning & changing filters; .. just too much trouble & "not worth it"?

There are various brands, styles & prices.

I never used any water fountain for my cats.
I've been using terracotta bowls for my cats to drink water for years now and find them really good. While they're mostly for dogs, my cat uses her feet to rest on the bowl

With Maine Coon cats, I often buy dog products because everything else is too small or too light. She even has a little indoor dog house because the cat ones are too small, and she can't fit in well. I have a lot of dog items for this reason.

I wash the water bowl with soap every day, so there's no odor or anything else. If someone doesn't do that daily, terracotta might not be the best choice.

Even if I wanted to change, my cat probably wouldn't know how to use a new bowl like this after 14 years.

It would be a big change, so I stick with what she knows and likes.

I use a standard bowl. No need for the advanced stuff.

I want to get a water fountain, but I haven't invested yet. I know my older boy likes drinking out of the tub/sink and stuff like that, so he quite clearly likes running water. Not sure how the younger one would do, though. Would probably be curious and drink anyway. I'd of course leave out a regular bowl of water in case.

Yes indeed! I always have; but just the novelty of these has certain appeal for me. :D

Nothing beats the simplicity of a regular water bowl for maintenance!
BUT... I did get a rather inexpensive fountain.
The two cats were 'standoffish' for a day or two, but now have taken to it.
I've read that somewhere in their 'way-back' DNA cats are programmed to only drink the running water because it tastes better and is healthier than stagnant water.
:dontknow:

I've only had one cat in the past who haunted the laundry-room sink faucet & would always stick her head under the running water to snag a drink.

I feel like just the fountain alone would scare mine half to death.

They're probably aware of the old saying, "Curiosity killed the Cat! "
......
My little wild little cat seems to spend more time than the other, more serene cat, drinking from it; and just sitting there looking at it. :D

So far I like it, totally quiet & pretty simple maintenance. But, here's the catch: of course I'll need to order more filters soon.

My cat literally jumps at everything. Oven scares her, the sound of the dogs collar from 2 rooms away makes her incredibly concerned lol. Mine's a wild cat too but even she has her limits lol.

UPDATE:
After several months of living with this 'fountain' ....... The little black cat loves this thing. I have never seen the other 'Tuxedo' cat drink from it while turned on. She may be drinking from it while "moving", but I just have not witnessed her doing so. She is not afraid of it & drinks from it a lot while it's "still". So, for now I'm leaving it turned on in the daytime, but unplugging it at nite.
Personally, I like the thing; but that's not what's important.
