China Builds 57-Story Skyscraper In 19 Days

A Chinese construction company says it built a 57-story skyscraper -- and it only took 19 days.

Broad Sustainable Building said the Mini Sky City building, located in the Hunan provincial capital of Changsha, has 800 apartments and office space for 4,000 workers.

The company used a "modular method," piecing together the structure at the rapid pace of three floors per day, they said.

The AP explains:

The Changsha-based company spent 4½ months fabricating the building's 2,736 modules before construction began. The first 20 floors were completed last year, and the remaining 37 were built from Jan. 31 to Feb. 17 this year, Xiao said. The company has honed its technology to accelerate its construction speed from two floors to three floors a day, he said.

Up next, the company hopes to assemble a 220-floor skyscraper over just three months in Changsha.

The thing with china building codes are they do not even nearly meet the Canadian standards.

For instance where we would use a 2 x 4 they build with 2 x 2. So even with steel stud structures the flange width of the walls gives them lots more sq footage, however lacking on stability. Even going to a lower gauge does not give nearly as much support as 2 x 4 of the same gauge.

Now pre assembly is getting really popular here as well. Pre fabricated panels you can erect a house in days. ESPECIALLY if you are working in light gauge. it is like assembly of a mechano set. LOL

Yep....I agree completely....hope they're not prone to earthquakes or severe winds there or we'll be watching the video of it toppling over in a week....:s:

The time it took to build that was impressive but I would never feel comfortable living or working in that building. Good thing I'll never have to.

China construction inc is the largest construction company in the world but I don't know if they did this project. I'd seriously be curious about the engineering of it but at first sight it reminded me of the bible story of rebuilding the temple in three days lol
