Chinese media in favor of US gun ban

Hehe, well isn't that just objective reporting.

So this had me wondering what our news had to say... turns out it wasn't much at all.

If people can't see what a massively huge failure any attempt at gun control is, they are seriously deluded.

Let me just pull some stats from the UN.

Gun control is neither the solution nor the problem. It's just a factor.

If >50% if gun crimes in a country are perpetrated using legally bought firearms, it would be worth considering some form of control.

On the other hand, if people can simply get their guns somewhere else with relative ease, it obviously wouldn't do squat.

If a large percentage of gun crimes are caused because of mentally ill people having access to a fairly convenient weapon, it might be worthwhile to prevent them from getting their hands on any.

These are just things that should be considered in the interest of safety, alongside matters such as the size of the police force. They are however completely ignoring the real problem. Ask yourself, why do people commit these crimes? And try to find an answer to that. People don't kill people because they happen to have a weapon (of any kind)... unless they're truly insane (in which case you should be wondering why they have access to a weapon in the first place). Find the underlying problem and eliminate that, stop them from wanting to commit any crimes. (Statistics show harsher punishments aren't the answer to that either, by the way.) Lobotomising the population would work, but I suppose that's not a very good idea. Getting psych evaluations for each and every citizen, while somewhat unrealistic, might work. As well as the usual stuff regarding safe environments to grow up in, freedom of expression (without taking it too far) and proper education.

There, I wrote a decent size paragraph... I'll just end by saying I hate cultural differences that cause people harm.

@EE: I think that's the longest post you've ever made. I must say it was well written and hats off to you!
