Monday was MLK day so Ive seen / heard lots of stuff about recognizing civil rights lately.

Do you think everyone has equal civil rights now? Will we all ever be treated equally?

No. Just take a look at the deep South where the KKK a racist, anti-Semitic movement is still stronger than ever.

Will we all ever be treated equally?

Never going to happen since the world is full of homophobics and bigots.

I'm sorry, I just spent a month in Pascagoula, Mississippi (for those of you that don't know, that's about as deep South as you can go without getting wet), and that yes, there are assholes down there, of every color, but no more there than in, say, Philadelphia.

On the whole, overall, there is more respect, civility, and general good behavior there than I have observed just about anywhere else in the Eastern half of the country.

Like everyone above me, a very clear no on the first point.

I do think that society will one day evolve to a point where everyone has the same civil rights. Actually being treated equally is a whole different matter though, but I don't necessarily believe that everyone should be treated equally in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully against discrimination, but that doesn't mean that everyone should get the same respect.

From my experience in Texas, racism and bigotry is much more prevalent there, at least when compared to here in Washington state, which is much more conservative than the east.

Who, in your opinion, doesn't deserve to be treated equally?

It's subjective. I base my judgement on people's actions and opinions. There's no definitive who, no one type of people, but for the sake of the argument, let's say drugs dealers or racists.

Like I said though, I made a difference between civil rights and everyone being treated equally. I'm not trying to say certain people shouldn't have the same rights.
