Clinton: FBI to probe China email hacking charges

WASHINGTON -Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says that Google's allegations of Chinese hacking of its email system are very serious and will be investigated by the FBI.



Clinton told reporters on Thursday that the Obama administration was disturbed by the charges, which the Internet company says include breaches of email accounts belonging to senior U.S. officials.



Google said Wednesday that personal Gmail accounts of several hundred people, including senior U.S. government officials, military personnel and political activists, had been exposed. Google traced the origin of the attacks to the home city of a military vocational school in China whose computers were linked to an assault 17 months ago on Google's systems.

Hang'em high! I believe the world would be better without people like that. By threatening U.S. security you're threatening my security, and to be honest, I would love to see them brought before a trial and be charged with war crimes and sentenced to either life or death. I'd much rather scum be dead than an American soul over a security breach which could seriously jeopardize our national security, should it get into the wrong hands. Maybe I'm sounding a bit extreme, but hacking into top government officials' email accounts sounds a bit extreme to me.

One thing that bothers me about this is they want to consider this as an act of war... do we really want to fight a war with China all because we think someone there hacked our government's e-mail addresses? Are we really that stupid to fight a war that will not end well for anyone only to find out the people involved had no affiliation with the Chinese government?

Email hacking sounds harmless to you and me, because our emails probably aren't that important to our personal security. But to top government officials, that's a big deal. Not only is it unacceptable, it is a breach of our national security. Wiki Leaks is the perfect example. It jeopardized our security and put our armed forces at risk. How is this any different? We don't know what emails they viewed and what information the emails contained. No one is going to war over this, but it is a very serious matter that cannot be pushed aside. This person must face justice in the eyes.

Actually e-mails are important to everyone not just the government. Every single account you use on anything requires an e-mail address which is where password recovery e-mails get sent too. If your e-mail is breached then pretty much everything that uses that e-mail is also breached. We would be better off protecting ourselves better then trying to war with people over it. No one should be using public e-mails for anything when the messages sent are regarding official government business. Government officials and those working with the government should be banned from conducting any discussions regarding official business via e-mail accounts such as G mail. They are way too easy to break into when you are a public official because of the password recovery using secret question that are easily answered when the person in question is famous.
