The world's first canned hot and fizzy drink is to be launched in Japan by Coca-Cola next month following four years of research.
The new beverage, called Canada Dry Hot Ginger Ale, is the result of extensive research into how to combine both heat and carbonated bubbles in a can.
The drink, which has a spicy cinnamon and apple flavour, has been produced by Coca-Cola and will go on sale for Y130 (76p) next month in vending machines across Japan.
The sale of hot drinks such as tea, coffee and soup in innovative self-heating cans has long been popular during the winter months in Japan, appearing in almost every vending machine and convenience store.
However, this is reportedly the first time that heat has successfully been combined with bubbles, tapping into an emerging new hot fizzy drinks market that is forecast to take off shortly in Japan.
A second fizzy hot drink is set to be launched in Japan in November by Kirin Beverage Co., the Japanese drinks company, in a reflection of the anticipated popularity of such a sector.
