do companies lie in their commercials and/or advertisements?

do you think they get away with lying in their commercials?

what should be done if it was proven that a commercial is lying?

Companies stretch the truth.  While they do offer a certain product/service, there are often several conditions in the fine print that only come to light when billing becomes an issue or a service/product is not held up to the company promise/customer expectation.  This isn't always the case with companies, but a lot of them do indeed take advantage of the customer by stretching the truth or outright lying.

what about when companies say that their product is the best while all the others are saying that theirs are?

Well, that's dependant on the situation you're using the product/service for, price, product/service guarantee, company policy, etc. It is a tactic companies use to get the consumer to purchase their product/service over the others. It's like watching political ads--they claim everyone else sucks and is bad for the country's needs while they are the best choice and will do what needs to be done.

so, would that be false advertisement? :|

If the product/service doesn't work as intended--yes. But this is not always the case. There are resources available for customers to make complaints when a product/service is using false advertising techniques, which can be used to either force the company to live up to their word or get them in trouble.

Depends on what you call a lie. For example the recent new making one was Red Bull.
for years their slogan was 'Red Bull give you wings'

Is it a lie, not really, it is a slogan creating a metaphor, any idiot would really know that Red Bull does not in fact give you actual wings.
But as usual, someone took the literal meaning of it to court and sued Red Bull for false advertisement and won.

The point being that is a company lies, or even misrepresents itself, it is open to lawsuits if someone bothers to do so.

So what commercials lie? It is the individuals responsibility to make sure they are getting what they pay for.

Most of the 'lies' are no more than a subjective statement that cannot be objectively quantified.

That holds true with the commercials for that "you want fries with that?" place, new cars, as well as political campaign ads.

Most of the stuff they put in a bag in the drive through tastes like the same crap every other chain puts in their bag, most new cars are more similar than they are different, and the majority of politicians are flaming assclowns only out to enrich themselves by picking your pocket.
