Has anyone copied your ideas? Stole your graphics? Copied and pasted posts/topics from your forums? Copied forums & forum descriptions? Copied your rules/guidelines? etc etc etc

How do you feel about them? Would you take it as a compliment or do you get pissed off? Have you ever confronted the ripper?

If you found a forum that was pretty much an obvious clone of another forum, would you bother to join / stay active there?

I haven't had any problems like that yet. I know I'd be angry as Hell though if it happened. And I don't think I would bother to join a site if it was just a clone of another. I know I've used similar ideas from another forum I'm a part of. But I let the admin there know I was taking an idea I got from one of his areas.

That is a respectable thing to do. If I saw some idea on another forum that I liked, I would definitely PM the admin and ask them if I could use it as well. I wouldn't feel right just taking it. If the community liked the idea and gave me praise, I definitely wouldn't feel right accepting that either.

I suppose others who just take take take dont have a conscience.

Yep. More then likely they don't have a conscience.

Yeah.

I never mind topics being copied (Why not? More to discuss! Haha) but it's terrible when people take every element and format of a specific forum and use it on their site. My site for example, it's been years since me and my friends have been working on the storyline, slowly have been developing the site and trying to come up with new ideas to add to it. It would be a pretty frustrating if someone takes all these years of development and use it on their site without at least telling us. I could understand if someone got inspired by another idea on another site, it's always good to ask however.

Agreed.

I had someone badly copy the custom imageset for my style when I ran Convo Corner... though it's not something I'm that arsed about.

I think someone has stole my drawings I posted on deviantart! But I don't know what they did.

I wonder why someone would want to do that.. They have nothing to gain from adding someone else's drawings to their DA profile.

I agree, but it's hard to do much about it when the it comes to DeviantART. All you can really do is try to talk some sense into the people who stole your art or graphics, since it's unlikely the DeviantART staff will get to it any time soon if you report them.

I really dislike how often art theft happens on that site, I've been there for more than six years and it is just so common to hear now. Make sure to always add watermarks onto your drawings and put notices on your artist's comment that it's not usable without your consent, Hotspot. People assume it's stock when it's posted on that site, which gets pretty annoying.
