Coyotes Are In This Forest

Yes.

People are told not to let their pets wander after dark. And about once a month somebody is on the news boo-hoo-ing about how their cat didn't come back from its night patrol.

But the authorities don't warn them to keep their children in. So it's just a matter of time.

I have them here on my property. I've also had some very close encounters with them. On several occasions, I have had to fire warning shots to make them get away from me. I do not go out in the yard or come out of the garage without having my handgun with me.

A month or so ago I was fishing with a friend in a large pond behind another friend's house not far from here and we saw one loping along on the other side of the pond in broad daylight.

There is no doubt it was a coyote, and it appeared to be on a mission.

I saw one the other day in broad daylight. It ran across my front yard, scooped up what looked to be a chipmunk and ran into the woods with it.

We have coyotes in Oregon, but not here in the city. More out in the boondocks where there's not a lot of people, but more wildlife. I've seen a few at my mom's place.

Nope, no coyotes for me.

'cept on TV.
