A cyclist died last week in the Saint-Roch district of Quebec after he was run over by a police car for allegedly riding his bike the wrong way down a one-way road.

The 48-year-old cyclist, Guy Blouin, was said to be cycling the wrong way and the Quebec City Police reportedly wanted to pull him over.

Instead, the police ran over him, trapping the man under the car.

According to witnesses, the cyclist was under the vehicle for close to 15 minutes, one witness reported seeing him curled up in a fetal position beneath the wheels.

Witnesses further stated that the police started up the car again, running over the cyclist a second time. Blouin allegedly attempted to shout that he was hurt and there was blood coming out of his mouth.

The cops then proceeded to arrest the cyclist, pinning him to the ground and holding both hands behind his back. One witness descried the incident as a "rough arrest."

When the ambulance arrived, authorities had to walk Blouin over to receive medical attention as he was doubled over due to pain. He was then rushed to the hospital where he died just a few hours later.

Following the occurrence, the Quebec police are reportedly investigating the claims of the witnesses regarding the accident.

Sgt. Ann Mathieu of the provincial police said that the investigators already talked to some of the witnesses as well as the police officers who were said to be involved in the accident.

The spokesman of Mayor Regis Labeaume also released a statement regarding the incident and offered his condolences to Blouin's family.

A rally of around 200 people was held last week on the steps of the Saint-Roch church in protest of Blouin's unnecessary death. Some of the signs held up by protesters read "Police steal lives."

Terrible. Just disgusting. I find it hard to say much else other than these police need to be brought to justice. You don't RUN OVER a person on a bicycle just because you want them to stop and they're not complying. Police are trained to be TOO rough for ALL situations, and it's sickening. There's never any in between. It's always ramped up to a ten and people end up dying who don't deserve to die.
