A video of a proud father bursting into tears upon learning his son has gained a C grade in his maths test is going viral on YouTube.

Nearly 1.4m people have watched the clip which shows the father wailing with happiness after his son tells him the good news.

The boy secretly set up the camera before calling him into the kitchen to show him his results.

"Is the for real?", the father asks before bursting into tears and huging his son when he is told the letter is genuine.

Explaining his father's emotional outburst, the boy said: "One year before this video I was at a grade F in maths and in England you need a C to basically do anything with your life.

"I've never been amazing academically and have struggled throughout school , neither me or my dad or my teachers thought I was going to get my C.

"I know some of you might be saying, well an C is nothing but for me it was hard to get."

Aww, a little over the top though

Not really if neither the kid, himself or anybody in the family isn't good at math and the kid passes math?

Still. The dad was being overly dramatic. But, its still heart warming none the less. :)

I do think it was a bit of an overreaction. Maybe even staged.

When I took my math GCSE, I skipped approx. 40% of my classes in the final year because I hated my teacher. I still got a C. It is honestly easy as hell to pass math in England because we rarely uses the harder aspects of it, like the stuff taught in the US/elsewhere. Basic algebra, basic graphing, basic formulae. That's about it.
