Dating apps in 2024

Why are these even still a thing in the year 2024? A buddy of mine told me a few months ago that I should try dating apps because let's be honest it's hard to find a good woman in today's economy and I kept saying no, I wouldnt do it cause they suck until I caved in and tried Facebook Dating like back in July. Why Facebook Dating? Because if they have mutual friends, it's easier to vet. Anyway, I matched with a few women over the course of the couple months and I've realized that unless you don't go into extremely graphical detail about your life and you try to hold simple conversation, people simply aren't interested. I matched with one woman and after 3 days she told me she wasn't looking for a penpal. Okay, then what's the point of talking if you're not interested in talking and are ready to meet up after a few days?

Not to mention I've gone onto other social media platforms and people have had the same bullshit results happen to them, on other apps. Either the people got weird, or some were just flat out ghosted. What's the point of putting yourself out there if you have no interest in talking to someone, and instead you HAVE to meet them within the month?

I’m not familiar with how these apps work, never used or needed them. But from what I see, if you’re not on one now, you’ll stay single forever, It seems like that’s how everyone meets these days, unless you’ve got a lot of connections and someone introduces you.

No one really talks to anyone face to face anymore, and I’m sure it’s the same in many places around the world.

Well it's not being on one that's the problem, it's the expectations that come from being on one. If you're not meeting up with people after 2 weeks of intense conversation, it's considered a waste of time and it's like....when did simply talking become a dying art?

You're right; the expectations are incredibly high, and it feels like there's a lot of pressure to move things along quickly. It seems like people often want to jump straight into meeting up rather than having a meaningful conversation first, which can be frustrating. You make a great point there's a lot of pressure to move things forward quickly, and sometimes that rush takes away the value of just getting to know someone through conversation.

I'm not sure if face to face meetings are really dying out completely, but I've seen many people online mention that they feel uncomfortable being approached in person, worrying that the interaction might be perceived as awkward or intrusive.

My friend forced me into one a while back (he even paid for premium membership and everything!).

I found the whole thing cold, impersonal and repulsive, TBH. I never found my footing, I didn't know what to do, and I ended up deleting the app within an hour. He was PISSED.

I am so much in favor of real-life 'serendipity'; accidentally (or not) bumping into. I just can't connect good old Animal Magnetism with an APP.

I tried Facebook Dating because you can vet the people easier on there by who their friends are etc. Can look at their feeds etc.

Tinder is pretty fun. You can meet people in your area.

I truly feel so bad for young people in this day and age. Dating is NOTHING like it used to be and isn't even fun now. I remember meeting girls out and about and we'd agree to go on a physical date somewhere. Yes kids, back in the day dating involved going out and getting to know each other. Not texting back and forth.

Hell, one time I even tried speed dating. 😂 It went better than I had thought it would.

I've tried dating apps, and all of them are a fucking scam. "Give us money to MAYBE find a match." Fuck right off, I'll go out locally and find someone to talk to. I will say, it's hilarious to see people only now understanding what catfishing and lying is online. Folks have been doing this online for decades.

Tinder is pretty fun. You can meet people in your area.

Tinder is only good if you want to fuck. It will never be a legitimate dating site.
