A deer in the Florida Keys is breathing more easily after a deputy removed a Doritos bag from its head.

The Monroe County sheriff's deputy discovered the key deer while on patrol on Saturday. Its entire head was stuck in the crisps bag.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the deer allowed the deputy to remove the bag without a struggle.

On its Facebook page, the sheriff's office posted a picture of the deer taken just before the deputy removed the bag.

Ms Herrin told the Sun Sentinel newspaper: "It must have wanted that last chip in the bottom of the bag."

Key deer are the smallest of the Virginia white-tailed deer subspecies and are endangered.

The US Fish and Wildlife Services says the deer have been threatened by development, habitat loss and hurricanes.

Ms Herrin reminded Florida Keys visitors to properly dispose of trash to protect animals from harm.

While the picture is funny, the article wasn't. This poor deer could have suffocated to death. Glad the deputy was able to remove the bag.

Thank god he is okay! Poor deer tho.

Oh! Poor deer!
I'm so glad they helped him :o
