So if someone was dirt poor, had no way of borrowing money from someone, no way of getting money at all...

Would it be ok for them to steal medicine for their sick child or food for their hungry family? (things like that)

This is a hard question. I personally think they are wrong in the name of law, but I can't really say anything to the sick and hungry family. I would probably done the same, I have no choice. I can't just watch my family dies from starving.

There is ALWAYS another way. Never should people resort to stealing. There are government initiatives, sometimes family or friends to help. There are jobs out there, food banks, etc. I wouldn't hold it against them as hard if they did steal personally, but the law is the law, and we need to respect it.

It's like this. I was at a Youth Conference a year back, and unbelievably, my bible got stolen. I know who stole it, but never said a thing. He is a more fulfilled person, and seems more happy with life. Was it worth losing a thirty dollar bible? Absolutely.

Well if its an emergency that happened once or twice, then that fine I guess. Family health, safety and well being comes before any law.

However if this is how you feed your family or medicate them or whatever full time, then it wont be long before you are in jail.

Exactly what I was thinking.

But overdoing it will get you in trouble. If you are in that situation, you need to find another way fast.

As for starving.. In U.S we have what they call Food Stamp. A program that offers food and nutrition services for low income people..I wasn't thinking of this when I first read the topic. lol.

Do you know what you have to go through to get the food stamp card? Its like a debit card now where I live. Before it was actual bills. My mom got food stamps when I was a kid..

Anyways there is all sorts of laws and restrictions and rules in order to get the card and even if you can get one, they dont give you very much money to spend each month. Definitely not enough to feed your family for the whole month.

It's only around $222 a month for a family of four. But to qualify, you need to be making under $22,000 for a family of four. That's pretty low..

I probably spend that much a month on food and its just me and my daughter (she is only hear half the time though)

Oh, easily. It's not a lot of money. It's less than $10 a day. But as I states before, they need to find an alternative.
