Thugs tricked a disabled man into eating a deadly maggot and poo sandwich, and then tried to make him jump into a lake.
Daniel Newell is appealing for help in catching the teenage boys who terrorized his brother Matthew, 32, who has the mental age of a child due to Williams’ Syndrome.
He said Matthew and his 11-year-old cousin were fishing at the lake in Mill Dam Park, Merseyside, last Saturday when two boys sitting nearby began teasing him.
They then grabbed DVDs he was carrying and handed him a sandwich.
Matthew was forced to take a bite before realizing it was crawling with maggots and also contained excrement.
This was potentially life threatening as he has a faulty immune system caused by his chronic granulomatous disorder, which means he can catch infections easier.
‘Matthew was in hysterics – traumatized. He hasn’t cried since he was six but he was shaking and crying,’ Daniel, 28, said.
‘He’s never had problems there before. He used to go every day, as we can see it from our house and it’s the only time he has some independence.
‘But now they’ve taken that away from him – he doesn’t want to go down there anymore.’
His cousin ran to get help after the boys began encouraging Mathew to jump into the lake.
Daniel said Matthew’s aunt rushed over from their house nearby and was met with verbal abuse from the boys before they disappeared.
He’s planning to report the matter to the police but hopes people’s disgust at the story will send a message that deters future bullying.
Daniel said Matthew was delighted by the hundreds of messages of support and gifts that flooded in after he shared the incident on Facebook.
Heartbreaking. I hope Matthew is able to move on and gain a little confidence back, although I know that will be incredibly difficult for him. Bullying cowards like these don't understand or care about the huge damage they do. Not just physical but psychologically as well. They probably think it's hilarious. It's not. Well done to his cousin, a star who puts these idiots to shame. Be strong Matthew, you are worth a million of those people put together.
