Disney no longer owns Mickey Mouse and other characters. What are your thoughts?

The earliest versions of Mickey and Minnie Mouse now belong to the American people. The characters as they appear in the animated short films "Steamboat Willie" and "Plane Crazy" entered the U.S. public domain Monday, along with thousands of other works from 1928.

Good, the fewer copyrights Disney holds, the better. As the years move on more and more will enter the public domain, and that's going to be fantastic!

It's the original Steamboat Willie/Plane Crazy design. Not Mickey himself. It's confusing a lot of people on social media.

People will have lawyers at their door if they were to make films with Mickey Mouse himself.

There is going to be a Horror film with the Steamboat Willie design :o

Yep, Mickey will always be Disney's
Anyone will always find something in the public domain Disney related to do a Horror film about. They already did it to Winnie the Pooh...

Copyright expires 90 years after the original publication of anything. As I understand it seventy years after the creators death copyright expires which means in 2036 everything created up to1966 by Walt Disney will expire.
