Disney no longer owns Mickey Mouse and other characters. What are your thoughts?

The earliest versions of Mickey and Minnie Mouse now belong to the American people. The characters as they appear in the animated short films "Steamboat Willie" and "Plane Crazy" entered the U.S. public domain Monday, along with thousands of other works from 1928.

Good, the fewer copyrights Disney holds, the better. As the years move on more and more will enter the public domain, and that's going to be fantastic!

The character does, yep, but as content ages out to the point that the copyright expires, it enters the public domain and becomes legally usable by anyone without the need to consult or get permission from the Disney Corporation

It's the original Steamboat Willie/Plane Crazy design. Not Mickey himself. It's confusing a lot of people on social media.

People will have lawyers at their door if they were to make films with Mickey Mouse himself.
