Do you prefer city or country life?

Having grown up in a city, I can tell you it's not all cracked up to be. It's nosey, it's crowded, the views can be an eyesore at times. I prefer the country life sometimes, being up in the mountains is incredibly peaceful and quiet.

I grew up in a fairly small city and currently live in one c. 400K. And small cities seem to suit me. There are some more rural towns around here that I wouldn't mind living in. Don't like big cities (e.g. Toronto) though being close enough to one to use it for occasional visits or services like airports is nice. Just don't want to live in one.

Absolutely the city, hands down. I've lived in the country and it is unsettling. You find more right-wingers out there, too. The silence drives me mad.

Both small towns and cities have their pros and cons, which often vary with age.

When very young, small towns are nicer since young children don't need much, and smaller communities make it easier for them to be outdoors.
As young adults, cities offer more job opportunities. Later in life, small towns can become appealing again, depending on their size.

If we're talking about small cities, I'm okay with country life, but if it's villages, no. Overall, though, I think I prefer big cities.

My childhood I was in the country, like northern Canada so there wasn't a lot of people. In fact, there were more animals than people in the small town that I grew up in. Though I had a lot of fun outdoors (we had 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, and dirt bikes) and though growing up in nature was very beautiful it was also very lonely. There were cliques and if you didn't fit in (like me) it could be a very lonely existence. Plus, you never really meet anyone new, everyone knows everyone and is in everyone's business.

In my early 20s I had moved to London, Ontario and a few years later moved near Toronto, Ontario. While in the city I loved how I was always meeting new people and there was definitely more social things to do. Though, I do notice that with more people it is a fast-paced environment and everyone seems to be in a rush to get nowhere.

Now that I'm in my early 30's with no kids, I'm enjoying living in a smaller town (not as small as my hometown) but also not being in the city. I'm close enough so that if I want to go to the city, it's about an hour in one direction to get to one city and about 2 hours in a different direction to get to another. I also find there are less homeless people in smaller towns so that's also a positive. So now I prefer the country more. Though when I was a teen I would have said I would have preferred the city,

Only time I've ever been to Toronto has been for the yearly IndyCar race at Exhbition Place (there is a sublime pleasure at watching the cars race down towards the Prince's Gate at Turn 1 of the track there...).

I have lived on both.

I didn't choose to go to the country... I was sent there because I was a 15-year-old NIGHTMARE: drunk, high, aggressive, with a thing for lifting from people's pockets and backpacks with just as ease as from store counters. Mom basically kicked me out and dad had to deal with me, but I didn't actually improve, just was out-of-sight enough through endless hikes that I couldn't do much damage (I was kicked out from there too, though, after an incident involving a knife).

Country life helped me find some peace through natural beauty and empty roads, whilst city life helped me settle into a routine of not knowing who could see what. Eventually, the combination of emptyness and paranoia completely defused me.

I don't particularly like one over the other, but I wish I could live in a place that combined both, like a frontier town or something.

The country is beautiful, but city life all the way. I live smack dab in the center of everything. Walmart down the hill. Gas station up my street, mcdonalds up the street. Various other food places essentially next door. I would absolutely hate my life if I had to live in the country. The inconvenience of not being close to things is not worth it.
