Do you think AI will kill a lot of jobs or help create more jobs?

Are you one of those who think that AI will kill many jobs, or that it will improve them and help create more jobs? I'm a bigger believer in the second option.

It killed plenty of jobs at Twitter. Asshole laid off all those people and miraculously AI shows up to fill the void. Other companies who are internet based did the same.

So far a lot of people believe it hurts more than it helps.

ChatGPT is just the latest technology to fuel worries that it will wipe out the jobs of millions of workers, whether advertising copywriters, Wall Street traders, salespeople, writers of basic computer code or journalists.

But while many workforce experts say the fears that ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will cause unemployment to skyrocket are overblown, they point to another fear about AI: that it will widen the US’s already huge income and wealth inequality by creating a new wave of billionaire tech barons at the same time that it pushes many workers out of better paid jobs.

Like many revolutionary technologies before it, AI is likely to eliminate jobs. But, as has been the case in the past, experts argue, AI will likely offset much of that by spurring the creation of new jobs in addition to enhancing many existing jobs. The big question is: what sort of jobs?

I believe it will do both. It will take more than it creates though. It will take basic jobs off the market but it will create repair jobs.. because someone has to fix the AI machines... Atleast until they can fix each other.

I don't think it will make my job obsolete. I work for a city parks department, I think my job will evolve into me supervising all the robots that will do my work for me. :P

Sure but there’s likely to be a skills gap though and so a worker shortage. Fixing robots will be priority work. Those who don’t understand AI will be out of work too.

Supervising the robot and fixing the robot are two different jobs. You think they'd have fully qualified mechanics following ALL the robots around at all times? No... they'd have people who just watch the robots, coordinate their tasks and report when they are malfunctioning.

Sure, just like we have consultants liaising with customers in a business where I’m a software developer and the consultants provide the requirements to the project manager which then comes to me.
