Do you think it's better to use mobile data or Wi-Fi?

What are your thoughts on making use of either mobile data or Wi-Fi? Which one have you been making use of since you started being connected to the internet?

If your making use of mobile data or Wi-Fi, why did you choose one over the other or are you making use of both of them?

I always have mobile data and WiFi enabled on my phone. It has a feature to use the one having stronger signal strength. So, I don't really do the choosing. The phone does, hehe.

I have unlimited data so I don't really care which one I am on. When I am at home both seem equally as fast. Work has WiFi but I refuse to login to their WiFi with my phone because of privacy reasons.

Most of the time I have no choice but to go off of my mobile data because a lot of places free WiFi is too slow.

At home, I am always on WiFi as it has a numerously faster speed and allows me easy access to my LAN devices. When away, I normally just stick to mobile data as public WiFi is generally terrible, and with unlimited data I just don't want to deal with it.

How much is your phone bill?

I was wondering the same about you Nebz :P

In the UK unlimited data is super expensive. Although it does depend on the network. I prioritise network quality over data caps provided the data allowance suffices. I have 5 GB data, unlimited calls and texts per month with EE for around a tenner a month.

@Nebulous @Uncrowned Guard i assume you also get unlimited calls and texts right?

My phone bill is $60 a month (USD) and it includes a free subscription to Amazon Prime (which I use a lot for the shipping and their streaming TV service).

That’s pricey without a phone included.
Then again I’m not surprised.
Is it SIM only?

Would you consider totally eradicating your home broadband?

Thats cheap for over here.

Also I don't pay for home broadband/internet myself, my partner does. :P

I do. Most of our plans are completely focused on data anymore, I don't actually think you can get plans without unlimited calls or texts (maybe some prepaid plans). Although most of our plans are very expensive and there are all sorts of fine print terms. E.G. Verizon's unlimited laptop data plans are capped at 30GB of data and many phone plans offer unlimited data that is slowed after so much usage.

Ah i meant pricey more in the sense it’s not even something i’ve ever looked into as it’s not necessary for me :P

Do you feel a nerd for unlimited mobile data?

As for broadband, you know what i meant XD I assume your partner doesn’t have unlimited mobile data? Even so, without broadband have you considered he can hotspot off you?

Just like in the UK that I don’t think you can get plans without unlimited texts and calls anymore :p

And yea that fair use policy makes sense. I used to have T-mobile back in the day and data was unlimited but throttled after 500MB usage per month.

Throttling speeds has stopped in the UK due to claims of misleading advertising over “unlimited” data.

And wbu, do you have home broadband? Does your home ISP throttle speeds following a certain data usage?

We have broadband at home and it is truly unlimited. Well... I'll get back to that. It has unlimited data and is quite fast, we have their mid-tier 500mbps plan and it is good enough. The price is a bit high, but pretty average for the area. The issue they have is that they require you to use their modern (you can buy your own that works from their approved list, but they have openly admitted that they will brick it with a bad firmware update around the one-year mark) and theirs is pretty cheap. So you have to restart it (we have a timed weekly outlet for it) or your speeds start to drop off.

Hotspot internet from a cell phone isn't as reliable as having a wired home connection. You get what you pay for so if you want to cheap-out and try to use your cell phone internet to power your entire household (3 people live here), good luck with that. :P

I have a mesh wifi network that has eliminated all dead spots in my house as well as improved speeds from a distance. I do this with home broadband though, mind you. I'm on the EE network with 4G and speeds are just as good as home broadband, with upload speeds often significantly higher surprisingly on mobile data than home broadband.

I'd bet you that installing a mesh wifi network all over your house for a mobile hotspot would rock too.

I use wifi to keep more batery on my phone.

I only use WiFi when I'm at home. But I have T-Mobile's Magenta Max Pro plan, so the data is totally unlimited (which is a good thing, because I get my money's worth streaming TikTok for four hours each day...)
