A highly respected doctor has been described as a ‘monster’ after he told more than 500 people that they had cancer when they didn’t.

Dr Farid Fata, 50, told some of them that they had terminal blood cancer in order to make money from health insurance by giving unnecessary treatment.

As he was jailed for 45 years, a patient identified only as Steve said: ‘He’s a monster and a master of deceit.

‘I lost three years of my life to cancer treatments. I hate this man. Some may choose to forgive, I never can. Maybe God can.’

In total Fata administered 9,000 injections of Rituximab which is believed to weaken the immune system.

He was eventually caught out by office manager George Karadsheh who worked for Fata. He noticed there were a large number of people quitting their jobs and they told him that they suspected Fata of misdiagnosing patients on purpose.

Fata told the court in Michigan: ‘I do not know how I can heal the wound. I do not know how to express the sorrow and the shame.’

Question: Is 45 years enough for what he did?
