Doctor sent 'Bye Jerk' text to cancer patient

A family doctor is being investigated after sending a cancer patient a text saying: You've not got much time to enjoy life - Bye Jerk.

Romanian GP Ionel Mircu was said to be furious when a 57-year-old patient from Cluj told him he was moving to another doctor because of the high fees he was being charged.

Stunned victim Milu Husaric - who is dying from a brain tumour - received a text from the medic saying: Consider all the sick-leaves I gave to you and your wife as a gift. You've not got much time left to enjoy life. PS Bye, Jerk.

Romania's version of the General Medical Council - the CJAS - has warned the GP he could be fined or struck off for the message.

It's a violation of professional duty, of ethics, and an attitude that cannot be sanctioned or permitted, said general director Emilia Groza.
