Around here the hospital staff usually has the mother fill out the paperwork after babies are born. She can write down whatever name she wants and that will be the child's legal name.

Her husband (the father) and his entire family. Backwards way of thinking, huh? My father decided on my name long before my birth, and my mother had no say in it, no right to object, or to at least suggest her own.

Of course she had a right to object, unless there is a law in your country that states only fathers can decide names.

How can anyone enforce this tradition if there is no law on the books? I'm sure a bold woman will come along sooner or later and say "FUCK YOU" to everyone and name her baby whatever she wants to name it, no matter what anyone says. #GirlPower

Ironically, the same kind of people have no problem breaking the actual laws.
