KEANSBURG – Shaeif Solimon of Old Bridge and his family tried to bring their dog into a water park here Thursday, but were told no animals allowed. So Solimon decided to leave the Yorkshire Terrier roasting inside the van while the family cooled off in the water, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals.
Soliman's dog was discovered in the parked van outside Runaway Rapids at Keansburg Amusement Park by Keansburg Police Officer Justin Cocuzzo, who opened the van to give water to the tiny Yorkshire Terrier while calling the SPCA. Amato and SPCA Officer Debora Nagel responded and attempted to take the extremely agitated dog out of the space where the temperature, with the doors open, measured almost 110 degrees, Amato said.

The yorkie, named Julie, is at the Red Bank Animal Hospital where she is recovering from heat stroke, Amato said. Doctors gave the dog intravenous fluids to lower the dog's temperature, Amato said. Solimon was charged with animal cruelty, he said.
