video games industry’s inability to run a sensible release schedule has left three big games all coming out on the same day in October, including two Tolkien-esque fantasies both at the same time.
The moronic way that that publishers manage their release schedules has long been a source of frustration, but this one seems particular silly given how much advance warning EA had that October 7 was already looking a bit busy.
That’s the day that BioWare’s Dragon Age: Inquisition (aka Dragon Age 3) is out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

It’s a Tuesday, which may mean it’s actually Friday, October 10 in the UK, but out that same week are Sega’s much fancied Alien: Isolation and WB Games’ Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor.
All are for exactly the same formats and Shadows Of Mordor is also a fantasy action role-player, just like Dragon Age.
Why they all had to come out on the same day, considering that at the moment so few other games have a confirmed release date this autumn, we don’t know. But once the three publishers sober up and realise what they’ve done it’s possible that they’ll change the dates.
