People sometimes describe education as an investment in oneself. Do you see it this way?

Yes and no. You need knowledge in certain areas to progress in certain career fields, but more and more of those fields are going towards certifications and more and more fields are things you can quite literally learn for free online. So...it is and it isn't an investment in yourself. It's so, so expensive to get a secondary education, needlessly so, IMO, so it's important to really research what you want to do and if you NEED those degrees versus if they'd just be an extra leg up. If it's the latter, then don't waste the money, just excel at your work and make yourself invaluable.

Does buying a new vest and wearing it to work qualifies as in-vesting (in) yourself? ;)

It can be if you are selective on what you decided to get educated on. I know a few people who went to college and went after some bogus major and now they are working regular blue collar jobs because they couldn't find a job in their field.
