What are your thoughts on engagement and should there be a specific age to be allowed to be engaged? I think that if you really love the person, you should be able to get engaged to them at any age. Just so long as you are ready for that commitment.

Thoughts?

A lot of my friends are planning on proposing or have been engaged. In fact my cousin who is 17 is planning on proposing. I feel like face palming everytime hear about them doing it or whatever. Way too young. Not that I can give you an age when it is ok but certainly not in your teens.

If a person strongly feels that way about someone then I don't see it matters what age they are . But then again i've never been interested in engagement or marriage, if someone proposed to me i'd probably punch them in the face lol.

Indeed, in theory it doesn't matter what age you are. But my point is, one of my friends got engaged within a couple of weeks then a few days later it was over. With age generally comes maturity and that is what in my mind leads to a successful relationship going for the long haul. Along with trust etc

The thing is, it's about readiness and how well you know the person. As much as you may love someone at twenty, there's no guarantee you'll still feel the same way in five years. Engagement or marriage.

The valedictorian at my old high school got married about a month back, at the age of twenty while still in college. IMO, that's too young to know exactly how you feel about someone and how well you know that person, especially given that we were eighteen when we graduated and she didn't even know the man until about a year ago.
