If you can't hear someone and you've asked if they could repeat

themselves already, what do you do if you still couldn't hear them?

Nod and act like you understood? Continue to ask them to clarify themselves? XD

Lol. I do this ALL the time. I am ALWAYS mishearing people. I tend to nod and plaster the same expression on my face as they have on theirs. So if they look happy, sad, confused, thoughtful or angry then I too will look happy, sad, confused, thoughtful or angry. A couple of times I've been caught out. They'll say Why are you looking so happy when I just told you my cat died?, then I'll say Oh, I'm so sorry I misheard you Usually I get away with it though...although I then don't have a clue what they were talking about.

I would just politely tell them that I can't hear a word they are saying. I wouldn't want to just pretend I understood in case it was something serious or perhaps they are asking me to do something for them.

I say I still can't hear you.

Is that rude? No..

Reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry couldnt hear that woman Kramer was dating. She was mumbling and he just smiled and nodded and inadvertently agreed to wear a puffy pirate shirt on the Today Show.

Whenever I tell someone my last name they always want me to repeat it

I would just politely ask the person if they could please repeat themselves...

lol Had that happen today at school. He was whispering so he didn't disturb anyone, but I couldn't hear him. I said, What? and he repeated himself, but it was still too low to understand. I stared at him for a moment while trying to figure out what he said, but then I told him I didn't hear a word you said. He finally raised his voice loud enough to where I could hear him, and he didn't get his feelings hurt or anything since I answered his question in the end.
