What are some things that you experienced as a child that the children in the future won't experience?

recording my own radio show on cassette tapes?

That sounds really cool. What kind of radio show was it?

It was just mimicking existing radio show with annoying high pitched singing and talking and weather forecast  I might have the tape somewhere if it ever got returned from storage at my parents place before they moved, I'm sure I didn't get all my boxes when I returned to Finland.

Playing outside and using imaginations :P

That's sounds hilarious. Hopefully one day you'll find it and play it.

Using imagination. That's so perfect, Nebulous. And true!

When my sister and I were young, we would walk to the mall to window shop and pretend we were grown women shopping for expensive, fancy clothes and jewelry. She is 3 years older than me, so we're talking about a 7-year old and a 10-year old, walking alone to a mall 2 miles away and being gone most of the day with no contact with our parents. And our folks didn't worry about it for a moment.
We would also walk to the library and spend entire days there, all by ourselves.
There is no way in hell I'd have let my Son walk so far, for so long, and do it alone these days!
We knew not to talk to strangers or get rides from people we didn't know, and that was all that was needed to make my Mom happy that we were safe. Totally unheard of these days and it's damn sad to know it will never be like it used to be, ever again.
I suppose that it depends where you live. I am only eighteen and my childhood was a lot like that, and I know a lot of kids whose childhoods are still like that. The world might seem like this really, really dangerous thing, but there was never this one particular time where it was all sunshine and butterflies. For every Casey Anthony that I hear on the news, I think back to Ed Gein, Jeffrey Dahmer, and about a million and one other serial-killers that came before. Then, of course, there was the whole Holocaust fiasco, which in conclusion means to me, the world's fucked up, but it's always been that way.

Seeing lots of PolyStation consoles on stores, I was 7 back then.

VHS tapes
having music not be so portable
cassette tapes
Not having internet
using floppy disks to store stuff on the computer
video games not being on discs
going to video rental stores
being able to turn on a game and immediately play a game
Being able to turn on the TV and not have to sift through reality TV show crap
not having cell phones

I was born with a very serious case of AVM (google it) and at the time very little was known about it, it didn't help that I was living in Israel where they had limited resources when it came to dealing with this disease. Just between the ages of 6 months old - my early teen years I underwent around 40 major operations to keep me alive.

My teen years were especially hard because the disease made it so my facial appearance was dis-formed and of course we all know how terrible kids can be. Especially in high school when everyone is pairing up and starting the dating scene, I just kinda sat on the sidelines watching. It was rough. The thought of my future children being born with something like this is on my mind every single day. I just hope that within the next few years this new medicine they have been using will help prevent these types of things.
