Our school celebrates World Book Day every March and ALL the teachers HAVE to dress up. This year we had a lot of witches and pirates amongst the staff. I wore a long green skirt and a green t-shirt. I painted my face, neck, ears, arms and hands with green face paint and I went as Princess Fiona from Shrek! I even wore a tiara and some green Shrek ears. It was hysterical! When the other staff members saw me they were laughing and saying OMG!
All day long the kids kept running up to me yelling Hiya Shrek! although some actually realised I was Princess Fiona!
They were still calling me Shrek a week later too!
Most of the children were dressed up in Disney costumes - we had LOTS of Disney princesses!!! So in the afternoon the Head called a special assembly so that everyone could show off their costumes and she made all the staff stand at the front as she walked along the line and asked about their costumes. She also got the children to call out who each character was. They knew Noddy and Winnie the Witch and James Bond. Our librarian was dressed as 006-and-a-half who apparently is the female version of James Bond. No one had ever heard of her sadly! One teacher was dressed as Jeeves, which the children couldn't guess although the adults could. However, when the Head got to me EVERY child in the Hall yelled SHREK! so loudly, I'm surprised they didn't literally raise the roof! It was an amazing moment!
We also had some staff from another school visiting us and afterwards they asked if there was a teachers prize for the best costume. We said that there wasn't, so when they went back to their school they sent me a certificate for having the best costume of the day! I was really chuffed!
Next year I was thinking of adapting a costume I've seen and going as a burger!
I need to wear a longer skirt and a t-shirt as you're not allowed to wear 'sexy' clothes is school obviously and I need to figure out the salad-y bits. Also, we're not allowed to wear face paint in school any more as one of the parents complained! Doh!
Anyhow, what do you think of the burger costume for next year?
