In open world games where fast travel is an option, do you use it? How often?

For me personally it depends on the game and what I'm doing. In something like GTA where the radio stations and driving around are part of the fun, I would never use it if it were an option. But other games where there's not much to see or do in between destinations or it has you going from one end of the map to the other every five minutes I don't mind using it occasionally. I use it more when doing side missions or going after collectibles or something, not as much in main story stuff. I'd say the longer I play it a game, the more I start to use it towards the end of my play time haha.

When it comes to Bethesda games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield. Yes. There's so much ground you have to cover from point A to Point B that you kind of have to do it or it's going to take you an hour to get from one place to the next.

This is quite timely given that the developers of Dragon's Dogma 2 have reiterated that once again there will be no fast travel. Their reasoning being that fast travel acts as a means of compensation for a boring gaming world. It definitely does change the way that a development team have to approach designing and building their gaming world. I tend to use Fast travel in games a lot and usually it is because taking the time to run there on my own is unfulfilling. If I am not pressed for time or enjoy the aesthetics of the world then I will use it more sparingly. When it first started coming out as a feature I didn't like it and thought it compromised the immersion.
