Should adults try to teach young people lessons, such as the dangers of drinking too much, taking drugs, STD's, or should they leave them alone to find out about these things themselves?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches?

While it would work with some, others do things that they aren't supposed to do for the fun of it. I say parents should give it a try, but it's not guaranteed they'll listen.

I think no matter how much you try to beat something in to a child's head, they are still going to have to figure out things the hard way and for themselves. That doesnt mean you should stop trying to teach them things because hopefully something will sink in. Don't count on it though.

One should always try.
The success part isn't up to you, though.
