Many people are fond of animals, but people tend to value the lives of fish or insects less than other animals.

Why is this, do you think?

Why? ..... because they are not warm-blooded like us?

I really don't know why, but it has never bothered me to catch, kill, gut, butcher a fish. I have to leave the area if/when that's being done to any other animal....just can't take it.

Insects? depends. I view non-threatening spiders and beneficial garden bugs as desirable. But I sure don't mind swatting a fly or mosquito, or ripping the head off a tick.

I have to agree they do, and that's because fish have always been caught en masse for food, I think. I can't stand most insects, don't want them around me, so I suppose I do view them as lesser, if only to an extent.

A lot of cultural norms and I always feel that the lack of noticeable impact also helps things. Kill a bug or catch a fish and you can do the same thing again very quickly without any delay. Fish of course are viewed more as food, but at the same time, lakes and other water sources are often super well protected due to people wanting to fish there. So you can argue that fishing is helping ecosystems, although I'm sure there is a solid counter argue when it comes to adding stock fish and such.

Do fish have pain receptors? Any other animal would be crying, whimpering and freaking the f**k out if they had a hook in their mouth. Lol

I'll bet they do; but I don't know how to prove it.

This would indicate that fish, at least, do have a "survival instinct". I guess that may, or may not mean that they have pain receptors. :dontknow: Poor fish, jumping from the massacre to the beach.....doomed either way.

Doomed either way but suffocating is probably less painful than being eaten alive.

No animal is lesser, they are all God's creatures.
