A search has been launched for five people who were unaccounted for after a sponsored swim off the Dorset coast.

Participants had been swimming between Bournemouth and Boscombe's piers to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Coastguards were called by organisers shortly after 14:00 BST when a head count showed five people were missing.

Three lifeboats and the coastguard helicopter have been called to the area to search for the missing people.

This is awful! Is there any update on this story? (I looked and couldn't find one)

I'll keep an eye out for an update Jazzy, it might even be on

our evening news tonight.

The article has been updated since then.

Apparently there were nine swimmers who failed to check in after they'd finished the sponsored swim and before they went home. All nine are fine.

Thank goodness! Bournemouth doesn't need any more bad news following the Red Arrows pilot dying there just a few weeks ago.

Thank goodness is all I can say!

Yes it's a relief they were all safe, but I also think a lot tax payers money

was wasted on something that should have been avoided.

There was either a lack of proper organisation or a lack of communication

that led to this massive search being done.
